We’re getting new neighbors this spring! 918 Coffee is slated to open sometime this spring in the former George Tunes auto repair shop a couple of blocks west of The Campbell Hotel.
Route66News.com reported in January that Dr. Morad El-Raheb, a local physician, bought the property about a year ago and is turning it into a coffeehouse.
The most striking part of the property is the 1928 cottage-style gas station attached to the old garage.
Dr. El-Raheb told Urban Tulsa Weekly that he plans to incorporate the repair shop’s old 1940s-era toolboxes into the coffeehouse’s decor. The restored toolboxes will serve as condiment stations, he told the paper.
918 Coffee isn’t the only coffeehouse on Route 66 in Tulsa. Last fall, Foolish Things Coffee Company opened downtown, and JoeBot’s Coffee, located inside Dwelling Spaces gift shop, is next door to Yokozuna sushi on the Second Street alignment of Route 66 in the Blue Dome District.
When it opens, 918 Coffee will join a vibrant local coffeehouse scene. Tulsa is home to more than a dozen independent coffeehouses, each with its own unique personality. If you’re a coffee lover, we highly recommend spending a weekend or two buzzing around Tulsa, sampling all the great coffee we have to offer — and of course we’d love for you to stay with us while you’re in town. With 26 uniquely decorated rooms, we have something to suit every taste. Visit us at www.thecampbellhotel.com or call (918) 744-5500 for more information or to reserve a room.
