The Green Country Marketing Association held its annual meeting this morning at the Coleman Theatre Beautiful on Route 66 in Miami, Okla., which gave us the perfect excuse for another road trip and another chance to spread the word about the Campbell Hotel. This time around, we booked it east on the interstate to get to the meeting on time, then took a leisurely cruise back on 66.
Here are a few visual highlights from the trip:
This was the venue for our meeting. The Coleman Theatre Beautiful was built in 1929 and has been the focus of extensive restoration work by an army of volunteers.
This gorgeous chandelier hangs in the lobby of the Coleman's conference center.
On the Sidewalk Highway -- the 9-foot-wide alignment of Route 66 between Miami and Afton -- we saw a car in front of us swerve to avoid hitting a turtle. We stopped to rescue the little guy, but when he saw us coming, he took off running, so we just kept our distance and watched him until he was safely across the road.
We couldn't resist paying a visit to our old friend the Blue Whale in Catoosa.
We stopped to see David Kane's collection of vintage Packards at Afton Station.
Hope your Thursday was as much fun as ours. The weekend is almost here! How will you spend it? If you’re in Oklahoma, we highly recommend a trip down Route 66 — and an evening at the Campbell, of course. For reservations, call (918) 744-5500 or visit www.thecampbellhotel.com.
