“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
– The Cheshire Cat, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
The Campbell Hotel and Event Center hosted a bit of madness for a good cause last week when the Institute of Real Estate Management held its “Mad Tea Party” fundraiser to support the Margaret Hudson Program and the IREM Education Fund scholarship program.
Participants wore their best hats as they listened to an inspirational speech by Paula Marshall, CEO of Bama Pie and author of the book Sweet as Pie, Tough as Nails. One gentleman arrived in a replica of the Mad Hatter’s famous top hat, complete with “10/6″ (10 shillings and sixpence) price tag tucked in the band, while ladies wore everything from wide-brimmed sun hats to elaborate fascinators.
Proceeds from the tea party went to the IREM Education Fund, which underwrites scholarships for students entering college, and to the Margaret Hudson Program, an alternative education program designed to help teen mothers complete their education while caring for themselves and their children. If you missed the festivities last week but would like to make a donation to either program, or if you know a student who is interested in applying for the IREM scholarship, please contact lgott (at) apartments (dot) com or debbinecessary (at) yahoo (dot) com for more information.
